Sponsor hands-on STEM career experiences in your local schools

Last reviewed: October 2026

The short answer. Companies, universities, and foundations sponsor Betabox Onsite Field Trips at schools in the communities they care about. A 35-foot mobile STEM lab visits each school, and students code robots, fly drones, and build circuits, with no bus required. After the visit, CareerStack™ connects students with local employers and colleges. CareerStack™ is included with district-funded Onsite Field Trips, and sponsors get priority placement for their Career Opportunities, such as job shadows, internships, and apprenticeships.

How sponsorship works

  1. Pick your schools. Choose the communities and grades you want to reach in North Carolina, South Carolina, Georgia, Virginia, Tennessee, or Alabama.
  2. Fund the days. Each lab day serves up to 125 students in class-sized sessions.
  3. Stay connected. Post Career Opportunities in CareerStack™ with priority placement.

Who funds Betabox today

Current funders include the University of West Alabama, Cypress Creek Energy, and SparkNC. Since 2015, funders have also included the North Carolina General Assembly (through NCDPI), the South Carolina Department of Education, Mobile County Public Schools, Google, Trane, Virginia Tech, MITRE, Merck KGaA, Red Hat, and Boeing.

Two sponsor stories

  • University of West Alabama. UWA partnered with Betabox to bring hands-on STEM career experiences to K-12 students across Alabama's rural Black Belt. UWA has delivered more than 400 Onsite Field Trips to 80 schools in 24 counties, with about 21,500 student experiences through FY2025. Read the UWA case study.
  • MITRE. MITRE's Huntsville iHub sponsored 16 days of hands-on cybersecurity learning at eight north Alabama schools. About 30 MITRE staff toured the lab at launch, and 23 signed up as volunteer prospects. Of 78 digital post-visit survey responses, 92% said the visit increased their understanding of why cybersecurity is important at least to a moderate extent. Read the MITRE case study.

Why it works for schools

The Vela Institute, an independent evaluator, studied our field trips. Student content knowledge rose from 41% to 53% after one visit, and 96% of educators were satisfied. Betabox Guides run every session, so teachers have nothing to prepare for the day itself. Read the evaluation. Colleges and workforce partners can also look at Spotlight.

Best fit

  • Employers, universities, utilities, and foundations that want to reach students in specific Southeast communities and build a local talent pipeline.

Another option may fit better when

  • You want to reach students outside the Southeast. Onsite Field Trips are not available there yet.
  • You want a one-time donation with no school visits or follow-up. A direct gift to a school foundation may be simpler.
